Congratulations to Dr. Ned Rouze and co-authors for the acceptance of their work published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America this November, entitled "Analytic calculation of shear wave signals in an incompressible, transversely isotropic material." linked here!
In this work, authors present a novel method for the analytical calculation of shear wave signals in anisotropic materials, with special applications in transversely isotropic materials (such as skeletal muscle!).
The presented method involves the multiplication of transfer functions for the acoustic radiation force, and the material response in the fourier domain, with a simple inverse fourier transform to arrive at the final signals. Therefore, this fast method introduces new potential for material model fitting to experimentally measured shear wave speeds in a fraction of the time as FE or Greens functions-based methods!
Analytically calculated signals for the shear horizontal (SH) and shear vertical (SV) wave modes in an ITI material are shown here!
Those shear wave signals are also compared to experimentally measured speeds from previous in vivo 3D-RSWEI acquisitions in skeletal muscle with tilted fibers!
Congrats again to all authors!
