Shruthi Srinivasan and co-authors published a paper in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology entitled "Longitudinal Assessment of Quantitative Metrics for Skeletal Muscle Health Using 3D-Rotational Shear Wave Elasticity Imaging in the Vastus Lateralis."
In this paper, authors quantified the low variation of SWEI metrics-of-interest (such as shear wave speed, anisotropy of the muscle, and the increase of those parameters with applied knee flexion) across 3 months in the vastus lateralis of healthy participants. Among all metrics analyzed, quantified coefficient of variation was <10% on average, which can have broader implications for longitudinal monitoring of neuromuscular disease progression.
